Birdy The Mighty Decode s1 and s2
Pretty cute! Great music!
- S1 definitely had a better balance between Birdy's superheroics and Tsutomu's more mundane life. S2, kind of went LOL, TSUTOMU HAS A LIFE? WHAT LIFE? and preferred to focus much more on Birdy's backstory. Which was great backstory! But I wonder if there had been a s3, the balance between these two would have returned? and Tsutomu would have regained his body back?
- I'm a little bit surprised that Birdy's outfit wasn't as sexualized as it could have been? I mean, some angles, definitely were. But I feel like the animation team tried to be a bit less fetishy than usual. So there's... that.
- I liked that whenever Birdy jumped there was a stardust soundeffect.
- Nataru's descent into villainy was tragic, and I do wonder if he's officially dead or if would have appeared in s3? Oh well, regardless, I liked his romance with Birdy, even if they didn't end up together. He went to far, but I couldn't help but have sympathy for him.
- I cannot believe that s1's villain was (M Night) Shyamalan. Why did they choose to have a villain with his name?
- I liked Tsutomu's romance with Sayaka. Again, I wonder if something would have happened in s3 for either Sayaka to remember, or if if Sayaka would have had a bigger presence in the third season.
- I loved the two Yakuza guys who kept getting new cars, and for Birdy to routinely destroy them. What a good running gag!
- Even if I was sad at Birdy's absence in the middle of s2, I really enjoyed Tsutomu impersonating Birdy and having to pretend that he didn't know his school friends.
- Birdy had really cool theme song, and whenever it played, it felt very heroic.
- I liked Birdy's home planet and it's citizens.
Overall, I'd rate it as an 8.5/10. S1, 8/10. S2, 9/10. Despite being more unbalanced in s2, I did find myself getting more invested in the darker material of s2.
