Shokugeki no Souma / Food Wars s1
Food good, reactions to food, bad, bad, bad.
- I hate how sexualized and orgasmic characters get when they eat something delicious. I want to say it's equality, because both men and women get flustered, but the thing is, it's clearly gears towards the female characters getting more foodgasm/tentacles than the men. I hate it. I hate that it is really horny for food. Like, I enjoy Ryou, and his switch and personality, but holy hell, it irked me that he only really verbally attacked the female judge, out of the four other judges, and was like: you're gagging for my food. STOP.
- I think it does actually get toned down from the first episode, because that is. A Lot. But it's still too much for me, TBH.
- Look, the food does look good! It looks delicious! Still doesn't mean I want characters to react in that particular way!
- I liked Souma. I know he's a typical main character, who takes pride in failure, and is highly open to experimental stuff, but he's fine! He's very cute and likeable.
- Tadokoro was great! I think she out of everyone got the best arc? She's still pretty shy and under-confident, but I do think it's still a marked step in that direction for her to overcome that and believe in herself, much more so than anyone else.
- OFC I ship Souma/Tadokoro. I found them very cute together, and I just -- at this current moment, want them to end up together.
- I hated Erina for like. 90% of the show. I didn't find her funny. She was an asshole. I don't get wny the show is trying to imply Erina/Souma, when it's like? Awful. She's entirely too bratty and self-absorbed for my liking, and honestly? What a dire first impression. She clearly liked Souma's product but says it's disgusting because what? Ego? FFS.
- Erina was mostly interesting when interacting with her cousin Alice, and her helper, Hisako. At least with Hisako, Erina seemed like she could potentially be a nicer person, whereas with Souma, it was just vile, and I couldn't get any cute romcom vibes from them.
- I'm genuinely curious to see if/how the show is going to make me like her. Because right now, I would say I don't.
- I really liked the Aldini brothers! Takumi, ofc, was great. But I definitely had a soft spot for Isami, because he was a bit -- he knew how to wind up his brother, whereas he was mostly super chill with everyone else. And had great shark teeth! IDK if I preferred him thin or fat -- I just. Liked him in both versions, because he was cute both, but extra effort was definitely made to make him look gorgeous when he was slender, IMO.
- I liked Akira Hayama. I hate that there's vibes that he's got a thing with Jun, who is like, 20 years older than him.
- Don't really care about Souma's dad. I'm sure more about him will be revealed, but uh, currently I don't care that much.
7/10. I've seen better. I know nothing will top Yakitake!! Japan! but oh, I will always miss that show and how it's the clearly the best food show.
