Castlevania Season 3
Mostly really good! I don't really have that much familiarity with the videogames (besides skimming a few pages on TVTropes), but I've liked this series a lot!
The bad:
- Um. The rape scenes. I'm never really that much a fan of having scenes of violence and sex, cut together, but uh, yeah, I was kind of iffy on them in general. I understand their purpose, I just don't particularly care for them. I do think the Alucard threesome is more dubcon; whereas Lenore/Hector is far more explicit rape, considering she amped up on what Carmilla did, gaslighting and Stockholm Syndroming him nonstop.
- Okay, apparantly Sumi and Taka aren't related (though I kind of wished that this was actually said in the show, rather than revealed on twitter), because sex scenes with siblings (even though they're not siblings, but Alucard doesn't know that, or when any character brags that they had sex with twins) is really gross; I'm still sad their story played out that way. It is understandable in some parts, and overblown in other pats. But they were a likeable duo, and it's kind of until the end that I was like: huh, this isn't what I wanted to happen.
- Really sad that my fave trio, Alucard/Trevor/Sypha didn't get to interact. I loved the dolls that Alucard had made, loved him mimicking them, but I do miss them! I missed them bickering as a trio SO MUCH!
- Man, Hector's day just goes from bad to worse. People keep on taking advantage of his naivety, and I just want him to be okay. Maybe all he'll get in this show is a mercy kill to finally end his suffering.
- While I do like the vampire sisters quartet, they didn't actually do much? Which is fine because there's definitely going to be another series to see their plans unfold, but this season was more of them laying out the foundations, which shall become more prominent now that Hector can make an army for them. I did like seeing them be a group though.
The good:
- TREVOR AND SYPHA ARE IN LOVE AND CUDDLING AND THE CUTEST. I love them so much! They never failed to bring a smile to my fave.
- Trevor dual wielding the weapons were great! In general, seeing the monsters were super cool!
- Bi Alucard! While I am not a fan of how it was revealed, I did like a lot of his storyline, befriending Sumi and Taka, warming to them, and then eventually ending up more similar to his dad, because of their betrayal. I just wanted him to be happy, and now he needs a hug (again).
- The Judge! Oh, I know he was evil -- I did wonder if he'd killed the child with the apple tree speech, mused on it, forgot, and then when he repeated the same thing to Prior Sala, then thought: yup, he definitely killed that kid. I also just really like Jason Isaacs. He's so good!
- I liked Isaac's trip around the world, befriending the Captain and Miranda, and the shopkeeper; and that the kindness he meets along the way is also tied into the cruelty he suffers. But I liked that he was questioning himself and the domino effect it could have on others. It didn't quite take, but all the same, it was so neat to witness. I like a lot of how he was developed.
- MORE CHO! I really liked how the show revealed more about her, since she didn't do much at all in s2, and hopefully there'll be more of her court later? Her fight scene was so good, and I liked that we learnt more about vampires abroad.
- Bill Nighy as St. Germain! I loved that he was foppish, and mysterious, and I'm not sure who his friend was? But I found him intriguing as he had his own agenda, and I can't wait to see him again.
- The animation in general was super great!
All in all, I'm very excited for s4, whatever happens next.
