It was good. It didn't wow me as much as I wanted it to, but I think it was okay. A good end.
(If I started from the beginning, maybe I'd like it more I... don't know. I did like it, but I didn't feel an overwhelming source of satisfaction either.)
Things I disliked:
- Entrapta's characterization at the start of the season, and how other characters treated her just rubbed me the wrong way. I get that they were stressed and that could have amplified the negative behaviour towards her, but just. I wish someone had pointed out that Entrapta had joined the Horde partly because she was told they had abandoned her. Yes, her love for science and technology helped her create weapons, but just. IDK. It felt a little too much like Entrapta was 'yay! technology!' and was a little infantilized with her hyperactivity and no one could keep an eye on her? Yes, she's always been energetic, but this felt like exaggeration, though granted, not rewatching the show for a while might account for that.
- Wrong Hordak. I actually adored this character and thought he was superb. What I didn't like was that they kept on calling him Wrong Hordak, and I know he wasn't the Hordak they were looking for, but I wish they'd given him a different name. Like Bob, or something. IDK!
- Shadow Weaver 'redemption'? I.... do not mind that she died, I'm confused at why it felt like it was supposed to be a redemption/atonement moment when that character.... had not earned it? Nothing felt like it was building up for her to sacrifice herself, and I just felt like it was 'oh we should get rid of this character because she is genuinely evil'. If they wanted to go the 'it's too late for me but not you' route for her and Catra, they... should have worked on that relationship some more IMO.
- I kinda feel like Hordak should have died too. He alongside Shadow Weaver were both evil people, and like if he'd sacrificed himself for Entrapta, I would have been satisfied with that ending too. Mermista muttering 'are we okay with him too...?' was a sort of saving grace, but, uh, also kind of not really?
- I never really like Swift Wind in this show, but. Yeah. I just don't.
- THEY NEVER EXPLAINED MADAME RAZZ. WHY DOES SHE LIVE SO LONG!!!! I got one appearance of her this season, and I wanted more.
- I don't know if I liked Scorpia forgiving Catra. On one hand, it fits; she has a big heart. On the other hand, man, I kind of wish that Scorpia had put her foot down and they never return to the way they used to be. I mean, I don't think it will be as one sided as it was like from s1-4, but I kind of wanted the whole 'you don't have to forgive friends who mistreat you' theme to be present? IDK.
- When did Spinneralla and Netossa get married? I... knew they were together, I have completely forgotten that they got married, unless it happened in a time skip. IDK. I never felt like this show cared for them, and definitely sidelined them. They could have been used so much more and with Netossa, it felt a little too late? But better late than never.
- Little bit sad that OG Horde group don't get much to do! Lonnie, Kyle, Rogelio (and a baby?) only appear fleetingly at the end? Really?
- Kind of annoyed that Spinneralla got chipped? Just... the way it happened was a little, when did they have time to chip her? It didn't seem like she separated from the group, so when did it happen?
- Frosta. I know she's always been a bit like Toph, but. Sometimes too much is too much.
- I so wanted DT and Catra to meet again, and they didn't! Missed opportunity.
Things I liked:
- BRAINWASHING! NOTHING MAKES ME HAPPIER THAN BRAINWASHING AND THERE WAS SO MUCH BRAINWASHING THIS SEASON. YAY! Everyone is so creepy and green veined and it's the best. I love the whole 'I am at peace' schtick and how it unnerves other characters. I love how invasive Horde Prime is, eyes and ears, and all knowing and all evil.
- Catra cat. What a cute kitty! (I kind of hate that I was reminded of Voltron Legendary Defender, where Keith gets a dog and this time, Catra gets a cat.) But I liked him!
- I liked that Catra/Adora got together! It sort of bugged me that the other couples only got heavily implied, (they weren't heavily implied, Seahawk and Mermista admit their love for each other, so do Bow and Glimmer, but they don't kiss, which makes me a little sad! what are their first kisses like!!!) but hey, the main ship of the show has always been Catra and Adora, and I do think the way they came together made sense and worked well.
- Evil amoral Micah was the best. I love all facets of Micah and how he wanted to be the best dad, and he wants Glimmer to like him, but I also really loved him brainwashed and powerful and magic wielding and dangerous.
- Catra got a super cute haircut. In general, I really liked Catra this season and she became prickly and reluctantly part of the Best Friends Squad. I also really liked that Catra's betrayal of Entrapta wasn't forgotten, and it was part of her self-loathing.
- It was great to see Mara again and have her ask Adora 'what do YOU want', because Adora has always been putting others above herself.
- I liked that it took a while for characters to forgive each other! Mainly Glimmer/Bow (he worried about her so much! but when they were reunited, he remembered how mad he was at her), and Adora took a while to believe that Catra would be good again.
- I really like Entrapta/Hordak. I liked that he remembered her despite his memories being taken away, and his return to individuality. But, I would have liked it more if Hordak had perished, simply because I do not feel that Hordak should get a HEA.
- I'm okay with Adam/He-Man not appearing in She Ra, and the last bit kind of felt like they were going to go in that direction, and Adora might learn about her twin brother; but I had kind of come to terms with He Man not being a thing in this show.
- I liked the Star siblings, but I'm kind of sad they didn't really amount to much. Are they canon characters?
All in all, it was a solid season, and I think when I rewatch it from the start, I'll really like it and the direction it went.
