It was an okay read. 3/5.
Next up, the final book of the Aurora trilogy. I am positive it will be an average book.

Jan. 2nd, 2022 05:21 pm Book 1 of 2022, and I do not like it. It’s okay, just not as fun as I thought it was going to be.

I know I am going to have a bad string of books to begin with but the quicker I read them , the sooner I can get rid of them.
Derek Landy - Dead or Alive
Sep. 21st, 2021 04:26 pm I keep forgetting what happens in previous books, but I don't bother to reread so of course, I'm just lost, lost, lost. I swear as soon as this series finishes I am going to reread to figure out what the hell just happened TBH.

I think maybe this was an improvement to the previous book, but on the whole, Phase 2 has been a disappointment.

I was going to throw this book away, but there's going to be a sequel, and I'm. Not immune to Ampersand being a liar who lies about stuff, even when he does care, and tries to get around stuff by omission.

Regardless of forgetting basically everything and everyone, I think it was enjoyable. I do have to reread it though when the next book comes out, which is always something I forget to do. :(
(But also, it's such a hassle to reread even when I've forgotten just because I want new content...)

I would like to reread it again, or just read more Dumas novels. So, I also recommend this book about fascinating figures that history tried to erase.

Derek Landy - Seasons Of War
Jun. 22nd, 2020 10:15 am There are book series which I know I have to reread, because if I just read the newest book blind, I will have forgotten 80% of who is who. But it's fine, I tell myself, I'll figure out who is who along the way. It's fine, I say, because rereading over ten books just to get the new book and know who is who takes too much time and, it is a risk I can take.
And then I read it, and I am lost.

Gosh, I need to do a reread, but I think on the whole, this book was an improvement to the other books in the sequel series. Pacing is a bit wierd, but I admit I kind of skimmed the last chunk, but I do wonder what's going to happen next, regardless.

Jun. 21st, 2020 11:01 amI know I've gone off A Song Of Ice And Fire, and I know that on the front cover of this book, it said if you like GOT, you'll like this, but despite everything, there really were parts of it that I did like, even though there was plenty that I didn't.

Hm. There's so many characters, that I know I'm going to have to do a reread to remember who is who, and I know it's better to buy the next seven books and get through them as quick as possible so I'm not forgetting things, but at the same time, I don't like that I can't read a book in one day. (Which, nitpicking, I know, is different to choosing to spread out a couple of nights to read a book.)
It's just. It's really a heavy book. :(

Meh. I always wonder how intentional it is with Suzanne Collins' writing, and part of me does think it has to be intentional, but she always makes me feel kind of apathetic? Katniss is an apathetic narrator, thus, I am given no reason to care; Snow is also pretty apathetic, so yet again, I find it difficult to care in these book series.

I will probably reread this book again, but I think I need to mull on it some more.

Diana Wynne Jones - House Of Many Ways
May. 29th, 2020 01:52 pm Last of a super cute trilogy that utilizes prior characters in very good side characters ways. I don't know if it necessarily always works, when the main character becomes a side character, but it does in this series.

Diana Wynne Jones - Castle In The Air
May. 28th, 2020 10:09 am The second book in the Howl's Moving Castle trilogy! Diana Wynne Jones does it again. I'm always kind of miss the signs that the first book is riffing on The Wizard Of Oz, but this one being Aladdin, is pretty easy to figure out.

May. 24th, 2020 10:20 am Because rereading is fun too, and gosh, I love this book series so much. So much!
I've been rewatching Ghibli films, and so of course I get to Howl, and I'm like: I love the movie. But I love the book. If I'm rewatching, I can reread too! So, I'm gonna reread my faves.

Phillip Kerr - The One From The Other
May. 21st, 2020 10:37 am Guess who finally read a book! Me!!!!
Slight problem though: this book is a standalone, set after a trilogy, mind. A trilogy which I have not read. Which kind of irks me because what if there was something important I missed? Would there have been characters that meant more to me had I read the trilogy first?
I mean, it was easy to follow and understand the story, but it's a minor complaint, and part of the reason why I was kind of reluctant to read it in the first place, but I wanted to read something, and it's not a bad read.

Not sure I'd go back to this series, but it was a good book, nonetheless.

One of these days I am going to get a book that I really like. This was better than Nevernight Chronicles (by Kristoff) and These Broken Stars (by Kaufman), neither of which impressed me that much, though granted I don't remember the latter book since it's been a couple of years since I read it. Basically, I had this book on my bookshelf for a while, thought since I didn't particularly like Nevernight Chronicles, I might as well get this book over and done with, and then get rid of it.
Unfortunately, I can't quite do that. There's just about enough that I'm kind of interested in to see how this story ends.

In conclusion: mostly a slog, but I'm going to reread and probably continue this series regardless because I am all for evil plants and the girl out of time to get a happily ever after.
