I keep forgetting what happens in previous books, but I don't bother to reread so of course, I'm just lost, lost, lost. I swear as soon as this series finishes I am going to reread to figure out what the hell just happened TBH.
- Part of me still hopes for Axelia/Omen, TBH, Maybe Omen/Gretchen in the future, but certainly not, Never/Omen.
- I think I genuinely cared about Augur in this one? Usually I'm indifferent to him, but I liked him seeing his parents as terrible and selfish people, which they most certainly are, and care about himself as an individual, and then he died. Which: shame.
- Truly I wish I knew who Cadaverous was, because future!Skulduggery naming himself Cadaver lacked any impact it was apparently supposed to have. Naming himself Cain, however, did impact me.
- Hated everything about Malice and future!China, TBH. While I genuinely liked China's punishment of being unable to read again, like it was awful but still quite cool - she didn't feel like China. Didn't much care for future!Valkyrie either.
- Had absolutely no idea who Quell was, but alright? Caelan v2 here we go? Unfortunate.
- I do wish that the Militia/Valkyrie breakup wasn't offscreen. I genuinely like them as a couple, and to have this happen offpage was just ????
- Loved seeing Fletcher again! I kind of want Fletcher/Valkyrie to date again, but I've missed their interactions.
- I just about remembered Crepuscular Vies, because he was Omen's partner, but any connection to Flannery I have no idea about. I did like the odd Crepuscular/Cadaver reunion though. It's not quite what Crepuscular wants, with his inevitable reunion with Skulduggery, but, still.
- I think I liked the banter more towards the end of the book, TBH? I struggled to get into this one, even though I like most of the jerks in this book series, but the humour didn't quite work initially.
- Would love to know who Silas Nadir was. A chapter ended with his reintroduction, I hadn't the faintest idea who he was, and just closed the book for the day.
- Still don't really care for the Flannery character. I know he's supposed to represent Donald Trump, but jeez, he's super forgettable.
I think maybe this was an improvement to the previous book, but on the whole, Phase 2 has been a disappointment.
