Uh. Paris is pretty, the characters are not.

This show should not have gotten a second season, but. Here we are. Here we are.

 September Roundup

  • I watched Zumbo's Just Desserts s1. Didn't like it much. Doesn't help that the show features at least two meltdowns, which makes me feel awful for the contestants. I did love the way the contestants narrated their actions though.
  • I watched the entire Back To the Future trilogy! I've never done that before! I mainly did it because Blank Check is back on a director that I like some of his stuff, and so now all I have to do is rewatch Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and we're good.
  • I started playing Tales of Graces. I love it. I love it.
  • I watched a couple of anime this month, which was great!
  • I did not read. Again.
  • I watched a couple of cartoons. I think I should start one that I stopped midway, so either: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Samurai Jack. But I'm real tempted to watch Cleopatra in Space TBH.
  • Manga, I'm a little bit sad that I only read one manga this month.

October Checklist
  1. Anime, I'd like to watch a couple of spooky shows. Not sure which, though. I'm definitely going to watch Certain Magical Index 2 by tomorrow because I kind of hate it, but I want it finished.
  2. Books, I am going to finish rereading this book series this month for sure.
  3. Cartoons, well, I already said above: maybe a show that I've watched before and continued, rather than starting a brand new one.
  4. Manga,  I did start Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Fuware. Do want to finish it.

satalasers: (Default)
I'm so bad at keeping track of these! But hey, better a few days late than never.

August Roundup

  • I watched Nailed It! Mexico s2, which is super cute and loveable. I can mostly understand the spanish, even though I need help every now and then. I still dislike that the chef can't seem to actually touch stuff when helping contestants, but I really love the host and how charming he is.
  • Also saw the newest season of Sugar Rush: Extra Sweet. I love seeing the cakes, but the format is so upsetting, because I don't like seeing bakers forced to give up their cakes mid-baking!
  • I finished Puss In Boots. I'm going to post my thoughts about it tomorrow, but basically, I'm disappointed.
  • I listened to ars PARADOXICA. Again, going to post thoughts later. I'm slightly more positive about this one, but I'm also a bit, :/.
  • I dropped Rude Tales of Magic. I just couldn't get into it and didn't like it.
  • Didn't read any manga or any books. Woe.

September Checklist
  1. Play Tales of Graces. I adore this game, so I'm taking my time just enjoying this game TBH.
  2. Anime, I'm going to finish Saiki K for sure this month.
  3. Books, I'd like to read Chronicles of Prydain, it's such a fun reread that's super comforting.
  4. Cartoons, I started both Tangled the Series and Ever After High. Both seem quite cute.
  5. Manga, this time I definitely have to get round to finishing Ao Haru Ride.

satalasers: (Default)
I have been immersing myself into playing Final Fantasy XII, which I did not like the first time around, but this time, I'm feeling a lot more positive about it. I'm trying to do the sidequests rather than the main storyline, and it's kinda fun, TBH? I still don't ~love it, but it's decent. Anyway, that's why this post is so late.

June Roundup
  • I finished Dragon Quest VIII's afterstory. Very cute!
  • I found a website that has Yo Soy Betty La Fea. I didn't watch any episodes, but... I made a step in that direction!

Other things:
  • I gave up on listening Athletico Mince. As much as I like Bob Mortimer, I couldn't stand Andy Dawson.
  • I started listening to The Pirate History Podcast, and I'm loving it. It's super indepth about the Golden Age of Piracy, and it's lead up, and it's clear that the host really loves pirates. IDK, he's very engaging and has such a soothing voice. Also, I love that he's aware that some of the pirates are terrible people, even if he understands the romantic appeal about them.
  • I watched The Great Flower Fight, which I mostly liked except for the part when contestants weren't allowed to help each other, and also that they chose the wrong winners. (I knew Dad and Lad weren't going to win, but I loved them, and was thrilled they got to the final.) But I totally wanted the other couple to win, just because I liked their work so much.
  • I watched Cabins In The Wild, which had people building really interesting cabins, and this time, they definitely chose the right winner. It was so impressive!
  • And then there was Space Force. There were parts I liked, I admit, but Lisa Kudrow's character was not one of them.

July Checklist
  1. Finish Final Fantasy XII. I'm honestly a long way away from the end, maybe halfway? But it would be nice to finish it this month.
  2. Anime, I want to watch four: finish Yakitake Japan, and Saiki K. Complete the hiatus, A Certain Magic Index 2. Start The Great Passage on Prime.
  3. Cartoon, I want to finish Puss In Boots, I continued where I left off, and I want to watch s3 of Miraculous Ladybug. If I'm really pushing it, I kind of want to start watching Tangled the cartoon series.
  4. Manga, I actually started reading Ao Haru RIde. So it would be nice to finish it this month too.
  5. Books, I started reading Brandon Sanderson's Way of Kings Part 1. So, I'll be dedicating my weekends to that, I think.

Honestly, I feel what's impeding my decision to start watching Dark Shadows again, is that I just want to watch the anime on Prime. There's not that much, but still. :/
satalasers: (Diego; determination)
Internet went out yesterday, so I'm just going to put these two things together. 'Cause why not?

May Roundup:

  • I did finish Dragon Quest VIII! Yay! Unfortunately, I didn't finish the after story. So I'll definitely concentrate on doing that this month.
  • I read five books! Just two, if you consider it being new books, but like? Target achieved! Awesome.
  • I continued Knights of Sidionia, finished it. My overall opinion is, it's fine when it doesn't try to go in the harem route, with typical female nudity/embarrassment, which I hate watching, even if the overall story is pretty good? I'm dreading the final season, though, I skimmed the manga ending on TVTropes, and like, if the endgame ship is the same, I'm going to really dislike it? The anime keeps trying to work in Nagate/Izana, which I will take over Nagate/Tsumigi, thank you very much. Also, the blend between 2D and 3D anime really don't mesh well, but I wonder how long it will take before it actually starts to look nice. (Motorcity sort of did something like that, I don't think it was necessarily 3D, but it was really cool use of animation, regardless.)
  • I am super close to finishing MAR. Honestly, I'm kind of loving it a lot.
  • I finished Steven Universe, watched the movie, and Steven Universe Future. I don't think I liked it that much, TBH. I guess I liked the build up of Steven's stress and PTSD and finally going to therapy, but part of me really thought he should have gone much sooner than the final episode. Also, the Diamonds were much more anticlimatic than I thought they would be. While I do think the sentiment of 'talking things out and realizing they were in the wrong, fixing their mistakes' is, admirable, I... still kind of wanted them dead. They 100% reminded me of Stepford Wives, now that they've turned their life around. Also, I kind of wish Spinel had been mentioned in the series, prior to the movie.
  • I didn't get to watch either melodrama, not Dark Shadows, not Yo Soy Betty La Fea, but hey, hopefully this month, I'll watch a couple of episodes?

Other things:

  • I finished Gotham! I meant to finish s5 a lot earlier, but I got distracted by other things. All in all, I do think it's a fun reimagining, and while it's not perfect, I do like how everyone maddens into the villains they become. I wish that Bane hadn't been so clearly inspired by the Nolan movie, but I can live in hope that one day, I'll get Bane, who wears his luchador mask.
  • I watched s14 of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. There were a couple of missteps, but I do think they were pretty fun episodes. They're such terrible people, but I somehow have a deep affection for them nevertheless.
  • I watched Blown Away. I feel like they chose the wrong victor, because I liked Janusz over Deborah. But on the otherhand, Janusz should have been chosen to leave in the... partner episode, considering the judges were a bit like '... this is the weaker work, but we like Janusz, he can't go!', which felt... extremely strange, considering someone should have left that episode, and no one did? I did feel very tense watching this show, as great as some of the exhibits were with their glass blowing techniques, seeing the glass break and shatter time and time again, really... stresses me out as a viewer. I really want things to work out for them! And sometimes, things just... break.
  • I finished iZombie. I generally liked it a lot, but I felt the epilogue itself was... kind of strange? It's an ending that works, if a tad too cheesy, but I think at the same time, I got kind of disinterested, so it's fine. Ah, well. I enjoyed Blaine for being a terrible person. Ravi being part-zombie, which I forgot about, was really cool acting. I'm glad Clive Babineaux got a HEA, although... making the woman he slept with, get pregnant, of which he was possibly the father, then just... die, so he could completely get his HEA with Bozzio was a little disappointing. I wish Liv and Major weren't together, because Liv kind of had better love interests in earlier seasons, but I do like Major, so I guess it's fine.
  • I watched Glitch Techs, which is gorgeous and cute and hilarious. I love it, so I'm really hoping for a s2. Miko and High Five are adorbs, so I ship them a lot, but I want to know what the conspiracy plan that's happening is about. Also, Luke Youngblood as Mitch is my fave. HE'S SUCH A TERRIBLE PERSON, but my god, Luke Youngblood is the best. I like that he's getting voice acting jobs! He's good a good voice! He's fun, and I love him dearly.
  • I finished up The One, a manga which I knew had finished and I'd read most of it, so I was only left with ten chapters left. I think I should probably give it a reread one of these days, but for most part, I think I really liked this manga, and I'm curious to know how well it's aged. (Spoiler, not all of it has, but I wonder if it's because I just read ten chapters instead of a hundred and ten chapters.)
  • I finished Sugar Rush on Netflix. While I'm not necessarily a fan of the format, especially since the bakers are standing up for six hours, and they can actually get eliminated mid-bake, whereas in s1, they got some respite inbetween Round 2 and 3 (though I do get why s2 thought, hey, we'll do it in one go, I don't like it.). Some of the bakes were fab though. And it's great to see Colin Hanks as a guest judge!

June Checklist

  1. Finish Dragon Quest VIII after story. I'm so close too! I just need to be patient.
  2. Anime, after Mar, I should watch either Final Approach or A Certain Magic Index 2. I know I'm going to hate the fanservice parts of these animes, but at the same time, I do kind of just... want to finish them.
  3. Cartoon, torn between Miraculous Ladybug s3 or Star Wars TCW's final season. Is it over? I think it's finally over?
  4. I gotta watch an episode of Betty or Dark Shadows this month. I know I can do it!
  5. Manga, I started reading Special A. I gotta get through my recommendations, and I am enjoying what I've read so far.
  6. Standard read one book once again.

I feel like giving myself a checklist has helped, so I do think this will be a monthly thing. It gives me some control, after all! xD. I kind of want to make it a weekly thing, but we'll see how I feel in the future?

satalasers: (Chopin; clockwork)
  •  I finished Jessica Jones s3. It took me a long time to finish because I don't especially like this show, and Trish was unbearable last season, and she became more unbearable this season. The last of the Marvel Netflix shows, and while I'm sad about Iron Fist and Luke Cage the most, I don't think I'll miss this one.

  • I rewatched Lego Elves Secret Of Elvendale, just because I missed that pretty sparkly show. Honestly, it still reads as a second season to me, as much as I like it. Except for Sophie -- the writers may have tried to make her likable, but I found her grating the fist time, and I did not like her the second time around much either. Plus side, I liked Cronan/Rosalyn as a ship now, even though I kind of want to see a bit of Cronan/Naida being besties too.

  • I watched the international versions of Nailed it. I loved them! How cute! How disastrous! I think Germany might have the best 'expert', I like Mexico's host the most, but I liked that only the French version got their 'Wes' with Etienne! I missed that! (Although I really liked Spain's expert, who won me over with him calming down a contest with a hug, which I found so sweet, whereas I'm annoyed at Mexico's expert would not help a contestant use a can opener -- just advised instead of doing it for her! Though I do think France had the best host/expert relationship, and I adored seeing Jacques Torres be hopeful that the french would be better bakers than the americans... and they are not. Although, France's host was also very sweet and helpful and he was fun. Spain's host had really bizarre outfits, but go her for wearing them, I guess.

  • I have figured out why Darryl is a bad dad! (Thanks to Reddit). He has the need to be in control and attempt that everything is fine all the time, in contrast to Henry, who is much more loosey-goosey with his beautiful boys (that are demon children). Yeah, I can definitely see that, he's lightened up a lot since the start of the show, but he still needs a long, long way to go. But this does explain why Henry/Darryl are the most popular ship, because they're such opposites, although honestly, I don't think they'll get together. It would be nice if they did, and Mercedes would easily be up for it, but I cannot see Carol as part of that group TBH.

  • I have started watching Tiger King, and oh my god. That pretty much sums it up! I don't understand how people can be so horrible and awful, but I am constantly internally screaming and saying 'oh my god', because the amount of weirdness curve balls this show keeps throwing at me is UNBELIEVABLE.

  • I think I'm going to alternate between non-fictional and fictional podcasts. So: I'm currently on the non-fictional All Work No Play, because Sam Riegal and Liam O'Brien are talking about their real life happenings; and next up, I'll listen to Dungeons and Daddies,  (or The Magnus Archives, depending on my mood at the time), and stick to that pattern.

  • I've been saving the MaxFunDrive 2020 edition. I haven't listened to The Adventure Zone yet, but Wonderful! was absolutely delightful especially with Griffin trying to ~subtly~ remind Rachel of her Alligator Jealousy. They are seriously the cutest.

  • Nailed it! continues to be so good! Every episode finds a new reason for me to laugh. I'm actually going to watch the international versions at some point!

  • I cannot believe it took me this long to find out that Just Add Magic's came out! THE FOODWITCH SHOW.

satalasers: (Saga; pensive)
I did not like this one as much as I thought I would. I mean, you think I would? It was sold to me as a show that was meant to be a bit like Jumanji and Narnia and it was... really underwhelming.

Mostly because everyone lacked brains. If they were smart, it would have been one thing, but they WEREN'T.

I feel indifferent to this show TBH. It was hard to invest in the plot and the characters, and felt slow and uninteresting lots of times. The nicest thing I can say about it is that I liked the opening credits, the soundtrack, and Aaron Ashmore. I might watch S2, if it get renewed, but... we'll see.
