Mm, it's not for me. I didn't hate it or anything, just felt largely apathetic overall.

Ah, well. I'm sure I'll get round to finding another podcast that I adore sooner or later.

Dropped. I gave it seven episodes, and I just. I didn't care.

- If someone gives me a positive reason why they liked this podcast and why I should relisten, I'll hear you out and try again, but for now, I'm just. Bitterly disappointed with it TBH.

- I guess by the end I just sort of felt ambivalent. It was okay, and I'm glad I listened to it, but it's not something I want to relisten to again.

I'm so bad at keeping track of these! But hey, better a few days late than never.

August Roundup

  • I watched Nailed It! Mexico s2, which is super cute and loveable. I can mostly understand the spanish, even though I need help every now and then. I still dislike that the chef can't seem to actually touch stuff when helping contestants, but I really love the host and how charming he is.
  • Also saw the newest season of Sugar Rush: Extra Sweet. I love seeing the cakes, but the format is so upsetting, because I don't like seeing bakers forced to give up their cakes mid-baking!
  • I finished Puss In Boots. I'm going to post my thoughts about it tomorrow, but basically, I'm disappointed.
  • I listened to ars PARADOXICA. Again, going to post thoughts later. I'm slightly more positive about this one, but I'm also a bit, :/.
  • I dropped Rude Tales of Magic. I just couldn't get into it and didn't like it.
  • Didn't read any manga or any books. Woe.

September Checklist
  1. Play Tales of Graces. I adore this game, so I'm taking my time just enjoying this game TBH.
  2. Anime, I'm going to finish Saiki K for sure this month.
  3. Books, I'd like to read Chronicles of Prydain, it's such a fun reread that's super comforting.
  4. Cartoons, I started both Tangled the Series and Ever After High. Both seem quite cute.
  5. Manga, this time I definitely have to get round to finishing Ao Haru Ride.

Wanted to have a place where I write down the previous podcasts I'd dropped -- might pick up again someday or not.
  • Welcome To Nightvale - TBH, this is a podcast I did enjoy as a gateway into podcasting, and I did like the story, but then, I think I got bored because it was kind of just rambling on. If it ended, I'd probably start listening again, but, I don't think it has, so I won't.

  • Kakos Industries - Probably wouldn't continue this one. While I did enjoy the crassness, at some point, I think it got too much. Maybe if it's over, but IDK?

  • Reading The End - I felt like the scheduling became too sporadic, that in the end I just decided not to continue with it. While it was great finding about books, I'm not sure the books were books I would have read anyway? Oh well. I enjoyed this podcast for the discussion (and guests), but I also liked the games they created, truly fun to play along to.

  • Into It  With Elle Collins - I'm pretty sure this podcast is dead, TBH. It's stopped updating for quite some time, and while I like that it got me to watch stuff I hadn't before, and I enjoyed the enthusiasm for these passionate people, I don't think I'd go back and listen to it, TBH.

  • King's Fall AM - Dropped forever, probably. I was such an Emily Potter/Ben fan, and I found their friendship, their mutual crushes on each other super cute, but then, it all went to hell, and Ben became really creepy. I stopped around the election campaign, and I'm not sure if the ongoing mystery is enough to pull me back in. Again, might continue if it's over, but IDK.

  • Xplain The Xmen - Dropped because in some ways, I don't think the Xmen is ever going to end. Not if the comic book industries have a say in it. While I did like the hosts, both Jay and Miles, and their spirited discussion, and their opinions on the Xmen, faves and unfaves, I do kind of miss them.

Exceptions:

  • Wooden Overcoats - In which I am like Rudyard Chapman, and I genuinely don't like Eric Chapman. Apparently the fourth season, currently on hiatus, will be the last one. So, I might as well catch up on the third season, and see how I feel about it?

  • Our Fair City - It's finished! I didn't know that! I think I'm just going to have to start from the beginning again and see how it all pans out, TBH. I don't know where I stopped at TBH, maybe season five or six?
satalasers: (Hanamiya; tsk)
  • I have barely done anything because I have been bogged down by Final Fantasy XIIRead more... )
  • I do like Final Fantasy, but there's a reason why XII and VIII are my least favourite games. I mean, they are good! I can list a lot of positives from both games, but at this current time, after playing over a hundred hours (I'm pretty sure I've played about that?), I'm a little sick of XII. But if I try and play something else, (which I want to! oh god, I do!), I don't think I'd get back to it for a while.
  • Fuck this game for punishing players for wanting to open every treasure chest and preventing them from getting the strongest weapon. How is a person without a walk-through supposed to know which treasure chest to open?
  • I really want to replay the previous Final Fantasies and Tales of series. I feel like playing videogames is a perfect way to burn through podcasts, of which I have many! (But I've only played Xillia and Graces from Tales of, and I'm sorely tempted to buy the Final Fantasy games from the Playstation Network just because I've never played I-III, and I kind of want to replay IV-VIII too.) I do think the next Final Fantasy game should be XIII, because I like that one, but I think I should choose a game that isn't Final Fantasy first, so maybe Graces?

I've been watching a lot of KDramas! I couldn't do a write up, so I'll be concise-ish here of what I've watched the past month:
  • Orange Marmalade, I watched in June, but forgot to write it down: it was cute, and I liked it's message, but I also don't necessarily think that it was earned within the drama itself? The historical moments were cute, but even cuter was the vampire family who were full of love. 7.5/10.
  • Healer, which was a super cute version of Superman, sans aliens. I liked the villain hierarchy, with Boss being a bartender for most part, as he manipulates Korea's future as he pleases. I loved the protagonist as he became Clark Kent, and they cast a really adorable Lois Lane-esque person. I loved the 'then and now', and you see why one character, who is so beloved, turns to villainy, but with such a good tragic element to him. 10/10, because there was so much I loved about it, and how fluffy and cute things were.
  • Hi! School Love On, which was okay. I think I got invested in the wrong love triangle, which I wanted: Angel/Angel-Turned-Human/Human, instead of Angel-Turned-Human in a love triangle with two stepbrothers. It was cute! And I liked seeing characters being high schoolers, and make up and break up arbitrarily. I'm not sure I quite bought the ending, and I suppose I got Second Lead Syndrome a little bit because I liked the other lead instead of the current one, but alas. It was cute, but I think I would have done it differently. 7.5/10, because I really liked the second half, even though at that point, I do think things spiralled a bit too out of control for my personal taste, but at the same time, I got more engaged by various characters at that point too.
  • Suspicious Partner, which was also super cute. It was about lawyers, and I liked how the office scenes happened, and unexpected friendships occurred and fixed/mended over time. I also liked the bad guy, who took me by surprise by his tragedy, but mostly I liked how he would creep up in the background, almost about to murder people. He was very good! But I also really liked the romance and the comedy, and it was just sweet and cuteness carrying the show. 9/10.
  • The Royal Gambler, was a really good historical! The King was super charismatic and Machiavellian, I liked the Prince-Who-Became-King, and changed from the light-hearted spoilt brat to someone crafter, colder, cunning. (I'd seen him before in Orange Marmalade, and he was so focused and devoted to this role, like damn, I really think this actor is really well-suited to historicals). Dae-Gil was great, and I liked how he never lost sight of his objective: that he loved people, and he wanted life to be better, but not at the expense of the innocent and those who suffered. This show also had such a good villain, who was always kind of one step ahead, and had a variety of minions -- some stuck by him to the end, and even after that, some left him, after figuring out it's not worth their time, some felt complicated feelings, and gradually became disillusioned with him, after his methods became too drastic. Also, I was super impressed by the assassin who kind of took center stage in the middle of the drama, because I'd seen that actor in much goofier roles (mainly Fight For My Way, but I think also A Korean Odyssey), and here he was cool and badass. 8/10, because I think plates spun a bit too long, but I liked the impression that in order to fulfill a dream/a villain, is the only way to carry it through is to become a monster? (Dae Gil clearly thinks not, but then, Dae Gil clearly preferred to be a civilian.)
  • Spark, was a cute web series, with a cute concept, and just. Yeah. Quick, easy, light to blitz through. 6.5/10.
  • Part Time Idol, was super cute and fluffy. Maybe a bit rushed, but a lovely view of the Idol industry, and overcoming hardships. I'm not entirely sure I bought the romance, but since it was really short, I don't mind that much? (I definitely saw the one-sided feelings, but I'm sure I bought the reciprocity of it.), and it was more about them becoming a dream team and becoming successful. 9/10.

Other things:
  1. Podcasts - I'm still listening to Pirate History Podcasts. I've got about thirty or so episodes before I completely catch up, so that'll take a while before I move onto Rude Tales Of Magic.
  2. Anime - I watched The Great Passage /  Fune wo Amu, which was interesting to see how people became passionate about creating dictionaries, and how they need to refine the process in later editions; I think the romance subplot was a bit too simplistic, and that the passing of time was difficult to tell at times, but I enjoyed the baby-dictionaries subplot that occurred in the middle of the episodes, and the camradie and office shenanigans. I watched Battery,  which was okay, but I didn't think much of it. I've finished s1 of The Disastrous Life of Saki K, and I'm gradually getting through Yakitate!! Japan, a series I truly adore and am trying to savour.
  3. Manga, I did not finish Ao Haru Ride. Hopefully in August?
  4. Books, I didn't read any. Brandon Sanderson's Way of Kings Part 1 is sitting on my bookshelf and gathering dust.

Dungeons And Daddies:
  • I'm so nervous for Henry Oak! I'm nervous-excited for his backstory, and Read more... ) But I'm riveted too. And I just want him to be okay.
  • I keep relistening to the latest episode a) because I love Ron and Henry winding each other up with their nervous energy, b) I love Anthony Burch saying 'who's in my bush-- oh I see! yes, yes, yes, laugh it up!' and him singing 'my name is Dominos~~~' in a delightful accent, I don't know if he inhaled helium or the voice was edited afterwards, but I love it.
  • I keep trying to figure out what my favourite dad order is, and I think it's 1) Glenn, scumbag king who wants to be his son's best friend rather than his father; 2) Henry, nervous well-meaning disaster case who has demon sons, and may also be a clone? raised in a cult? repressing awful memories that are going to come up really soon? (I cannot wait.) 3) Darryl, who I think has made the most positive relationship growth with his son in a way that feels the most authentic to me, (and also, I think I've really grown to like Matt Arnold?); 4) Ron. Beth May is hilarious, which is I think why I liked Ron more than Darryl, but you know, I don't think I buy the Ron and Terry Jr relationship that much? Yeah, they've made a lot of progress, and I do think they've the improved the most, however, I just cannot forgive Ron for decapitating Vampire Terry Sr in front of Terry Jr and capping it off with 'who's your daddy now;? Hilarious, yes, awful, yes.

I have been immersing myself into playing Final Fantasy XII, which I did not like the first time around, but this time, I'm feeling a lot more positive about it. I'm trying to do the sidequests rather than the main storyline, and it's kinda fun, TBH? I still don't ~love it, but it's decent. Anyway, that's why this post is so late.

June Roundup
  • I finished Dragon Quest VIII's afterstory. Very cute!
  • I found a website that has Yo Soy Betty La Fea. I didn't watch any episodes, but... I made a step in that direction!

Other things:
  • I gave up on listening Athletico Mince. As much as I like Bob Mortimer, I couldn't stand Andy Dawson.
  • I started listening to The Pirate History Podcast, and I'm loving it. It's super indepth about the Golden Age of Piracy, and it's lead up, and it's clear that the host really loves pirates. IDK, he's very engaging and has such a soothing voice. Also, I love that he's aware that some of the pirates are terrible people, even if he understands the romantic appeal about them.
  • I watched The Great Flower Fight, which I mostly liked except for the part when contestants weren't allowed to help each other, and also that they chose the wrong winners. (I knew Dad and Lad weren't going to win, but I loved them, and was thrilled they got to the final.) But I totally wanted the other couple to win, just because I liked their work so much.
  • I watched Cabins In The Wild, which had people building really interesting cabins, and this time, they definitely chose the right winner. It was so impressive!
  • And then there was Space Force. There were parts I liked, I admit, but Lisa Kudrow's character was not one of them.

July Checklist
  1. Finish Final Fantasy XII. I'm honestly a long way away from the end, maybe halfway? But it would be nice to finish it this month.
  2. Anime, I want to watch four: finish Yakitake Japan, and Saiki K. Complete the hiatus, A Certain Magic Index 2. Start The Great Passage on Prime.
  3. Cartoon, I want to finish Puss In Boots, I continued where I left off, and I want to watch s3 of Miraculous Ladybug. If I'm really pushing it, I kind of want to start watching Tangled the cartoon series.
  4. Manga, I actually started reading Ao Haru RIde. So it would be nice to finish it this month too.
  5. Books, I started reading Brandon Sanderson's Way of Kings Part 1. So, I'll be dedicating my weekends to that, I think.

Honestly, I feel what's impeding my decision to start watching Dark Shadows again, is that I just want to watch the anime on Prime. There's not that much, but still. :/

  • I have started watching Tiger King, and oh my god. That pretty much sums it up! I don't understand how people can be so horrible and awful, but I am constantly internally screaming and saying 'oh my god', because the amount of weirdness curve balls this show keeps throwing at me is UNBELIEVABLE.

  • I think I'm going to alternate between non-fictional and fictional podcasts. So: I'm currently on the non-fictional All Work No Play, because Sam Riegal and Liam O'Brien are talking about their real life happenings; and next up, I'll listen to Dungeons and Daddies,  (or The Magnus Archives, depending on my mood at the time), and stick to that pattern.

  • I've been saving the MaxFunDrive 2020 edition. I haven't listened to The Adventure Zone yet, but Wonderful! was absolutely delightful especially with Griffin trying to ~subtly~ remind Rachel of her Alligator Jealousy. They are seriously the cutest.

  • Nailed it! continues to be so good! Every episode finds a new reason for me to laugh. I'm actually going to watch the international versions at some point!

  • I cannot believe it took me this long to find out that Just Add Magic's came out! THE FOODWITCH SHOW.

satalasers: (Aurora; writing)
  •  I caught up with Duolingo Spanish podcast -- super interesting stories!

  • I am currently listening to All Work No Play, which is, quite frankly, adorable. You can really tell how much Liam O'Brien and Sam Riegal love each other -- they're such cute BFFS!!! It kind of makes me want to watch Critical Role, but that is HARD to get through, but it's still interesting to know that the beginning is here, where Sam creates his character Scanlan with Liam. (If anyone can offer advice on how to get through it, I'm all ears.)

  • I found out that ars PARADOXICA has finished! It was a podcast I've always wanted to listen to, but also wanted to wait until it's over to actually listen to it.

  • Listen, I genuinely like SAYER but it's sporadic episode releases were... offputting, (and it would never say when a season had finished! so i could never properly marathon a series), but apparently it's on it's final season -- or would be, if Adam Bash hadn't decided to remaster the first seasons episodes. Which is something I can understand, but at the same time, I'm so impatient because I want the show to be over so I can listen to it in one go.

  • I don't know whether I should delete the voice acting podcasts TBH. I feel like I should properly listen to Mike Lenz Voice - A Journey Into Voice Acting and Talkin' Toons with Rob Paulsen  before I decide this. I mean, I very much like Talking Toons, but I do think I'm going to have to find another site to listen to them, (or at least do some digging), because on iTunes, the episodes cut out, so I don't have access to the earlier episodes. Something similar to this is Mike And Tom Eat Snacks, which is a fab podcast, but it's also seems abandoned, and only half the episodes are accessible on iTunes, but there is a website to where I can listen to the earlier episodes.

  • I really want to start Athletico Mince because I just love Bob Mortimer, but I'm dedicating myself to one podcast at a time, to marathon. If I've caught up, then I'm pretty happy to listen to the newer episodes.

  • Podcasts that I have on my actual ipod, but I'm far, far away from genuinely listening: The Magnus Files and Dungeons and Daddies. I was really tempted to put The Glass Cannon and Schmanners, but I don't actually like having my subscriptions be uneven. I need someplace to write this down in case I forget, and this place is as good as any.

Basically, I like listening to podcasts while I'm playing videogames, and hopefully I'll burn through a lot this way?

satalasers: (Default)
This was a lovely podcast, and I'm sorry to hear that  that Paul Vincent has passed away, because I wonder where he would have gone with this -- he was starting Shakespeare retellings, which I'm a little bit iffy on -- since that's not really myths --  but after that, I can't help but wonder. IDK. He had a nice voice, I liked his snark, I liked how he shuffled the order of things a bit.

I mainly listened for the Arthuriana myths, but I liked his take on Norse and Graeco Roman myths as well.

Mainly though, I want to figure out my feelings for how the arthuriana should happen:

Honestly, in general, I kind of want to get into more Arthuriana stuff.

I can't believe I didn't know this podcast hadn't finished! It's such a good parody noir of how these three goofy siblings managed to actually get into the sequel!

Justin, as always, manages to make me emotional in the last five minutes. He just wears his heart on his sleeves.

I think I'll relisten to this podcast before Trolls World Tour is out, because it's such a good tale.

Also: I finally finished listening to Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic podcast. S1 was more interesting to me than s2, because s2 talked about other crafts, which I cared less about, but, seeing how people become inspired/overcome writers block, was still pretty fun to learn about.
