This was a lovely podcast, and I'm sorry to hear that that Paul Vincent has passed away, because I wonder where he would have gone with this -- he was starting Shakespeare retellings, which I'm a little bit iffy on -- since that's not really myths -- but after that, I can't help but wonder. IDK. He had a nice voice, I liked his snark, I liked how he shuffled the order of things a bit.
I mainly listened for the Arthuriana myths, but I liked his take on Norse and Graeco Roman myths as well.
Mainly though, I want to figure out my feelings for how the arthuriana should happen:
Honestly, in general, I kind of want to get into more Arthuriana stuff.
I mainly listened for the Arthuriana myths, but I liked his take on Norse and Graeco Roman myths as well.
Mainly though, I want to figure out my feelings for how the arthuriana should happen:
- I know I dislike Lancelot/Gwen, but I feel like I very much want Lance&Gwen to be best friends.
- I love love love Gawain being the favourite nephew of Arthur, and the best friend of Lancelot
- I love that Gawain has SO MANY SIBLINGS, Gaharis, Gareth, Agravraine and... Mordred.
- In general, Gawain remains my favourite even though I know he does a lot of messed up stuff, but I love him.
- I want WAY more Mordred!!!! It makes me so sad that Mordred does very little until the end when he's like: yeah, I want to take over Britain now (and maybe make Gwen my queen?)
- I don't know if I like Arthur and Morgana being siblings??? On one hand, I want it, because I think the Arthuriana being a big family full of conflict is a very good concept to me, but on the other hand... Morgana and Merlin being fey-touched is -- I want that too.
- I want Morgana/Merlin to be in love and it being this... IDK. This wierd thing. I want them to be in love, but I want it to be this -- wild and inhumane love. She's not evil, this Morgana, but she's... not completely good, either, the same for Merlin, obvs. One raised by fairies, the other by demons, maybe.
- I have a soft spot for Merlin/Nimue too.
- I actually really love Arthur being raised unaware that he's a royal and growing up as Wart.
- I love the Golden Children of the Grail part -- like they can do no wrong, but I love everyone else messing up a lot.
- I actually really want Mordred to be a hugely conflicted figure, and that he's fighting alongside Arthur in Camlann. IDK. I like the idea that Mordred was a good knight, but he got brought back to life, and his shade, oh his shade, is someone that craves death and destruction, or something.
- In the right mood, I think I could be sold on Gwen/Lancelot, with Arthur being duty, and Lancelot being love; but I'm super particular about it, because I don't really care for affairs/Tristen&Isolde love affairs for most part. Also I just hate how Gwen goes to a nunnery in the end -- I don't like that ending for her. I don't know what the right ending is, but it's not that.
Honestly, in general, I kind of want to get into more Arthuriana stuff.
