satalasers Last of a super cute trilogy that utilizes prior characters in very good side characters ways. I don't know if it necessarily always works, when the main character becomes a side character, but it does in this series.
- I too can relate to Charmain who wants to read books forever. I haven't read a book loving protagonist for ages, and sometimes they can be super pretentious, but Charmain is great. Books are comforting! Books are for escapism! Books are for learning! And sometimes books are meant for avoiding certain people like Peter.
- I do like her butting heads with Peter, and I'm never quite sure who's quite right whenever they have their arguments TBH. (Most of the time I do, but they're both helpless, so sometimes I like to believe that neither is fully in the right, and are struggling together.) But I like the friendship they have, and that it never becomes romantic, as they try to live together and sort out the conflicts in the book.
- I gotta talk about Twinkle. From Sophie's displeasure at seeing her husband take a disguise yet again, to him moaning that he had a miserable childhood and deserves a better second one is great. He's such a spoilt brat, but I love him so much.
- I like Charmain's magic! I know it's a lot like Sophie's -- in which they talk, and it occurs; and I kind of wish we found out why Peter's goes a little askew.
- I know Morgan's only two years old, but he's so cute.
- I love the character of the house, and how it does help Charmain out, but I love that it's got some mystery and time travel elements to it.
- Jamal returns! I totally forgot that! I actually forgot about Princess Hilda, but Jamal and his dog, I did not!
- I don't think that DWJ is riffing on a particular fairytale this time around? Which is fine and all, because she's still aplomb with snark, but still. For this series, I miss it a little.
- I love the detail that Sophie reads murder mysteries out to Calcifer.
All in all, super great. Glad they hold up.
