Sonic The Hedgehog

satalasers HOW I ADORED THIS MOVIE. Gosh, it's so FUN!
- Ivo 'Eggman' Robotnik was my favourite! How he was so very Jim Carrey, but also got a fantastic character arc! Oh, he was always bonkers, but he was apathetic, only getting defeated by Sonic drove him up the wall and he became obsessed, and slowly he morphed into the character I am more familiar with Sonic Underground and Sonic X. His outfits were stellar, I loved that he hasn't completely become full Robotnik yet, but he's close, and definitely achieved the look by the end. So I kind of want a sequel just because of how much I love Jim Carrey TBH!!
- Nothing makes me happier than costume changes and ALL THREE Robotnik clothes were SO GOOD!
- His Where Evil Grows dance was lovely!
- Also super loved his second in command, who clearly wanted to be Robotnik's BFF, but Robotnik clearly wanted nothing to do with him.
- Sonic was also great in this! He was snarky and idealistic and goofy and Ben Schwartz was very lovely and clearly having a fun time! What a charming hedgehog!! I cannot state how much redesigning him went a long, long way, into being a tremendous improvement.
- Like I don't think they did any reshoots with the new design, so if I'm right, the content would have been the same, and wow, that feels like it still would have felt like a very different movie, just because originally designed Sonic would have been a monstrocity. I had actually forgotten what he had looked liked, and when I checked to see what the difference was, WOW, my eyes immediately started burning.
- James Marsdan is very pretty and I love that he's so funny and in a sweet relationship (I couldn't tell if they were married from the start or if it was just during the timeskip at the end?) Very much liked the antagonism between his in-law, who hates him, all the same. I really want him to be part of Sonic's world, but I'm also kind of struggling to see him in future films, but I want him there because he was great!
- I'm so intrigued by making the Echnida clan the bad guys??? How will Knuckles tie into this in the (hopeful!) sequel????
- TAILS. TAILS APPEARS AT THE END! I DID NOT THINK THIS WOULD MAKE ME SO HAPPY BUT IT DID, AND THIS IS ALSO A BIG REASON WHY I WANT THE SEQUEL BECAUSE OF MORE TAILS! I am morbidly curious to know how Tails originally looked, but they did a really good job with his ten seconds of appearing.
Basically, I kind of always thought I'd like this movie, for Jim Carrey, if nothing else, but I was extremely pleasantly surprised by how adorable it is, and how much fun and love it had.
Knowing me, though, the films I love are doomed to not get sequels, but that doesn't mean I can't continue to hope that this movie does well enough to get a sequel all the same.
