Honestly? Super loved it.
- Mainly because I am all about Shin Sung Rok, and his extraness, and here? The weirdest, hands down bonkers main character I have ever seen, TBH. Like!!! I don't find most main characters that weird, even if they have quirks. Like, if I understand how they became that way, they're understandable to me, but his character Seo Yi Do, still the most overdramatic and comic genius I have ever seen, but his character is straight up, but delightfully so, weird. It was a joy to watch him, TBQH.
- I also liked Min Ye Rin / Min Jae Hee a lot, because she's this deeply depressed and cranky and murderous housewife, who truly lived an awful life thanks to her cheating husband, and she finds a second chance in this perfume, and also? Her love life.
- (Listen, I'm more sympathetic to this romance, even if it technically counts as having an affair, since a) her husband cheated on her constantly, b) her husband is refusing to divorce her, and c) I just want her to be happy.)
- But honestly, Min Jae Hee was great because she was competent at a lot of things, but due to being severely overweight was never chosen for anything. And as a result, has a lot of anger, and is snappy. And this perfume comes along and can transform her into the skinny twenty something she used to be and -- okay, I was kind of nervous about the premise. It definitely sounds fairly fat-shaming, but I liked how wholesome the drama ends up being.
- Because it turns out, that Min Jae Hee and Seo Yi Do know each other. She saved his life, he's never forgotten it, but for her, it was kind of nothing. And time and time again, when Min Jae Hee is kind of worried about Seo Yi Do is disappointed/disgusted with her true appearance, Seo Yi Do, oblivious to her true identity, is just. Still completely devoted to her, so very besotted and enamoured. He very clearly loves her for her heart, not her appearance, and what makes it so very lovely is that Seo Yi Do ends up with Min Jae Hee, who is in her middle age, who still retains some weight, only now, now she's confident in herself.
- Also, I like that Seo Yi Do's numerous allergies and phobias don't go away. Some of them lessen, but he still has them by the epilogue. It's just. A detail that I like. The man is ready to marry Min Jae Hee in an instant, but he is that dramatic that I love it.
- Am I sad that I never get to see Min Jae Hee and Seo Yi Do kiss? Yes. I think it would have been a bonus had we seen that, instead of just having them hugging each other, whereas Seo Yi Do kisses Min Jae Hee in her younger form a couple of times.
- I'm legit sad that in episode 13, Min Jae Hee confesses to Seo Yi Do that she is also Min Ye Rin, to which he joyfully adores the news, only for her to take it back immediately afterwards at the start of the next one. I can understand it, due to her self-esteem issues, but at the same time it makes me so annoyed because Seo Yi Do has been pretty upfront about how much he loves Min Jae Hee. And he finds out anyway at the end of episode 14, because structurally, that's what tends to happen in 16 episode kdramas. But still, annoying.
- I will say, that it totally makes sense to me that Seo Yi Do, who is angry the second time around, quickly forgives her. In Start up, Dal-mi forgiving Do-san does not, because that just did not feel genuine to Dal-mi, who is no-nonsense, and deeply hurt by a lie that spans over ten years. But for Seo Yi Do, who is highly emotional, jumping from one state of emotion to another in the blink of an eye, so him deciding that he missed her more than being angry at her, definitely made sense to me.
- I could not believe that Seo Yi Do and Yun Min Suk were siblings! They're so different to each other, and I like that their hostile relationship doesn't completely mend, but Min Jae Hee does help a little bit. And their mother is a character, who does care, but also kind of expresses it badly, since the bond between Seo Yi Do and his mother is strained, even if she understands him because they share similarities in affairs of the heart.
- Yun Min Suk was a cutie! I'm a little bit sad that his love for Min Jae Hee was shallow, and he didn't really want much to do with her true self, thinking that the younger, thinner version was her actual self, but still.
- Kim Tae Joon was a scumbag, and it was super creepy how he went after models who vaguely looked like his wife in her prime, but oh my god, what a creep! It was a very good performance, since I've seen that actor in other stuff, and never knew he could be so convincingly despicable, but oh my god! I'm glad he gets put to prison and everybody hates him!
- I really liked the complicated relationship with Kim Jin Kyung and Min Jae Hee. I liked them bonding over the false identity, and then Kim Jin Kyung getting angry that Min Jae Hee never told her that she was Min Ye Rin, but also, supporting her mother at various different points.
- Park Joon Yong was adorable, and I'm glad he got let in on the secret early on so Min Jae Hee could have a confident.
- I'm a bit sad that the side characters didn't get much development, but look, I just liked Min Jae Hee and Seo Yi Do falling in love and being petty but also supportive and ridiculous to each other, so I don't mind that much.
- The music was a delight! I enjoyed listening to it a lot.
- I loved the dual identities and Min Jae Hee trying to bounce back and forth as Min Ye Rin, and trying to convince everyone that she's two separate people. Does it drag on a little? Yeah, but that's the structure for you, which I don't always like, but this show was so fun and fluffy, it was a lot more bearable this time around.
- Ooh, I loved the mystery behind the perfume bottle, and that Seo Yi Do created it for her long ago, but only at the start of the show that she received it. IDK, I liked the deity/delivery service, and how it got connected. It was cute!
10/10. I just found it really lovely show with a wholesome message.
