Oh, I cried at this.
- It's about a 26 tear old man finding out he has stage four cancer, and realizes that his life has been pretty ordinary. While he undergoes treatment, he slips into a surreal world, that is cartoon and animated weirdly, but he pursues it every time he's unconscious, and it's just. It's very sad, very moving.
- It's also pretty affirming, though? Everyone's sadness is treated as valid, the ones who are left behind, the one who dies. I was kind of hoping for a magical cure, but, alas. Everyone worries about the main character, but they try to make him laugh and smile. I like how the mother realizes she doesn't really know her son, and tries to make an effort, and make amends with the other son who she had fallen out with.
- I liked the romance subplot, and how even though he broke up with her because he didn't want her to stay with him out of pity and obligation, she comes back, because she loves him, and wants to support him, and have a really good discussion about it.
- Oh man, the store assistant who was suicidal, and also joins the dreamland adventure, hit me hard. I'd like to say that he's better, mentally now, but it's hard to say.
- I honestly really liked the strangeness and wonderfulness of the animated world. It was a little creepy at how the main character's stone body decayed, but you can easily say it was symbolic of his stomach cancer affecting him. The Desert King asking if his life was worth it, and him without fail saying 'yes, it absolutely was', was wonderful as well, and how they both disintegrate with the wind and an embrace.
- The mother asking the store assistant for the story did make me cry unexpectedly. I don't know why, but it absolutely broke me. Every episode is sad, but this just was overwhelming, because he tried to meet the main character again in the real world, but it was too late, and I just found it tragic.
- I like that Amanza was the music track he'd been working on! That was very cute.
- I really like the lead actor! I've seen him in a couple of things, but this was just. Really freaking good.
