Hm, what a bad finale. I don't know what to say besides that, I liked a most of it, and then the final episode dragged what I'd say is a fairly solid 7-8/10 show to a 5. I'm aware that some kdramas are a little nonsensical at times, but you know most of the time, I don't mind it because sometimes it makes sense emotionally, or: it's not a strong finish, just that's still okay! This -- this was not one of these times.
Let's start with the bad, because oh boy, the bad was bad. And mostly, yeah, from the final episode.
- Kill everybody? Like, kill most of the characters that I liked??? Really? They decided to kill of the only ray of sunshine in the previous episode, fine, and then they kill of the minions! If I wasn't happy before hand, I was even more unhappy now.
- Did the director die? I'm guessing he did, he just... stopped being a vampire (because of the injection), and then started to age, but that's not... not the ending I wanted for him?
- Where did all the patients go? Did they get cured? Did they get killed? Somewhere in the middle of the show, this show kind of forgot it had doctors, and then in the last episode, it felt it kind of forgot that it had patients too.
- How the hell did Ji Seng come back to life? There's a line about him being able to survive without a heart, but then we get to see a scene where him seeing the sun is killing him, and the letter Rita gives to the patient from the first episode is from him (if he was alive then, why did he not give it to her himself?), and then saving Rita from more vampires (so she didn't know either apparently? but then??? she saw him die?)
- Oh boy, I got infuriated by Rita. I didn't like this romance, and I never grew that fond of her, because I found her too obnoxious and snotty, and seeing her kinder side felt inconsistent TBH. I kind of grew more and more apathetic with the stuff with her uncle and aunt, TBH.
The good:
- UNEXPECTED MINION FEELINGS! I would have liked it even more if Ga-Yeon/Chul Hoon/J (I think it was Chul Hoon, at least? the guy with a tattoo and eyeliner) had been given more time being a trio, because I felt like Ga-Yeon/Chul Hoon got given a bit more focus, so I ended up wanting them to get a happy ending, since they grew more dissatisfied being mooks of the director, but still loved him enough to follow him to the end, even if the director killed the both of them.
- Joo In Ho, random spanner in the wrench, and sociopathic anarchy mook, though, wow. His actor was having fun. It's nice someone was.
- I also really liked Ga-Yeon/Ji Seng, not romantically, since it never came across that way, but just, mentor/mentee wise. I would have watched more scenes of Ga-Yeon spending time with the patients and Ji Seng.
- I wanted to like the director so bad! He grew progressively more evil, he posed a lot! He drank tea and wine dramatically even though he couldn't taste them! I wanted to know why Ga-Yeon was his favourite? And I just, felt a little let down, because the kind of flair I wanted wasn't there? IDK. He was super fun to watch, but I think the back-and-forth got so repetitive, that I couldn't enjoy his performance as much as I wanted to.
- Sister Sylvia was so interesting, and I thought she was great overall.
- In general, I liked Ji Seng's friendships with people. I liked his broody/sunny friendship with Hyun Woo (and Luvvy the robot!); and his more prickly and slow to build friendship with Ji Tae.
- Hyun Woo, was just super cute, and I'm so sad that his falling in love with Soo Eun went nowhere, because they were adorable, and seeing them being giddy and mutually and openly attracted to each other was super cute.
It's just a shame, because, okay, I didn't like the first episode, with the really bad CGI wolves, but I liked the green eyes and the vampire veins; but then the show was decent, and then, it just took a real nosedive for me. Woe :(
