- I love these kids! So much! I like the conflict and how it gets turned on it's head, and now I really want to watch s2! I will, but I want to write my thoughts for s1 first.
- Out of the three, Nathan is my fave. Steven Yeun, y'know? He always does a great job, and I love that we know that Nathan is nerdy but funny and kind, and I liked his budding romance with Erica a lot! How he was happy to get a no for asking a girl he liked out, because a) he's never done that before, so he faces his fears and b) it's not the end of the world! (I mean, she would have said yes, had he asked earlier, but you know? he doesn't take it bitterly, choosing joy and focusing on the positives instead.) I would like Erica to be fleshed out beyond 'Nathan's love interest, so here's hoping s2 does that'.
- Ricardo is also super great! His being 'the new kid', 'the lazy kid' (as in, not so interested in homework like Nathan and Jake are), and 'the sports kid' (loves basketball), was a really cool characterization; and I liked that he bonded with Nathan's family (esp. little sister), and then sort of let them down, and the sister remembered that in a later episode and has not forgiven him. I mean, I kind of haven't forgiven him either, but I'm sure that'll be reconciliation in the future? I liked that he knew about business, because of his dad, (who was never around), and how he can help Nathan out sometimes. I also really like his relationship with Riva! I just. Oh man, I don't know who Riva will end up with, but I kind of want it to be with Ricardo, because they enjoy disliking things together? It's cute! It gave me such happy Mai/Zuko vibes. (But they also love zombies! and so they can be geeky about the same things too!)
- I love Jake too. How he's being stretched thin by his rigid dad, hence why he's the most Mr Fantastic. (At least to me!) I love that he's smart and a leader and wants to believe in people, and he wants to tell his dad the truth, but he's scared, and it's tying him up in knots and I really like him! He's a good kid. I kind of wasn't interested in Jake/Riva to begin with, but then they had a really good conversation about struggling under their parents control, and needing an outlet, and I... I kinda ship them? A little bit? I ship them less, but I want to see more of their friendship, even though I'm kind of certain that Jake/Riva will be the main couple since that tends to be how the story goes. I can totally be sold on them, I just would like more interaction.
- I would love to know more about Riva! I thought it was interesting that she didn't like the Flex Fighters, but then because she was Blindstrike it made sense! I like that she's got a rocky relationship with her mother, who I don't think is Dr C, but I could be proven wrong otherwise? Either way, it looks like next season, she'll be given a bigger focus.
- Super loved the villains designs! Especially James Arnold Taylor's electrical form. I kind of want them to return some more, but who knows?
- ALSO LOVED WILL WHEATON AS ECCENTRIC MILLIONAIRE WHO IS THE EVIL BIG BAD. HE'S ALL ABOUT THAT GOOD REP, AND HE HAD ME ALMOST CONVINCED THAT HE WAS A GOOD GUY, BUT NO! GUESS AGAIN! I loved that he was very supportive and easy going, but then had absolutely no qualms in poisoning these heroes. AND HE CAN SHAPESHIFT!
- I loved how it Dr C turned out to be good, when originally she was portrayed as bad, and Rook is good but actually bad.
- Which makes me so curious about Kane. Is he bad? I love him because he's voiced by Keith David, and he's... hard but fair, but he wants to push them to be better, but I don't know if he's aware that Rook is a villain? He could very well know! I liked that there was an episode of his background, and he was part of gang, and then decided that he wanted to change his ways and be good.
- BUT NOW EVERYONE THINKS THAT THE FLEX FIGHTERS ARE THE BAD GUYS! THAT'S SO COOL!
I am super excited for s2! I'm so sad I didn't watch it sooner, but hopefully Netflix will continue to produce more seasons of it?
