Kujaku no Kyoushitsu / Peacock Academy

satalasers This is a super cute manga that I should have finished long ago! It's so short, and cute, and I want to write fic for it.
- I know it's super cliche with plain girl falls in love with aloof-but-kind rich boy, but!!! I still like them! I like that Mahiro has to confront her own prejudices (that beautiful people aren't evil, that it was her own mother that caused that trauma), and so she does end up befriending the rich and beautiful group in her school, and only begins to fall for Shitara when he becomes nicer. But also that she takes her time to decide on how she should respond to his confession, rejects him, and then afterwards, decides that actually, she does have a thing for him.
- No, but I liked Shitara a lot actually! I liked that he was nervous in his own way, and he was hesitant to meet Mahiro's grandmother, because he knew that he was easily disliked for being handsome, when he was just as new to love as Mahiro. I liked that they struggled to communicate (but overcame it easily enough), and that their honesty was good for both of them.
- The (not) b-couple was so cute! I want to write fic for Maasa and Rin! I like the combo of bubby and easy to tease Maasa, with snarky and lazy Rin. I'm honestly really sad that they didn't actually become canon, but the bonus chapter did imply that maybe Maasa was developing feelings for Rin, and I can't help but hope that maybe Rin had already developed feelings for Maasa as well.
- I really liked the friendship developed between Mahiro and Maasa; how it was reflected with Rin and Shitara.
- I didn't see Rin/Mahiro happening at all, so his confession actually took me by surprise!! (even if he confessed only to get shot down). So I kind of want to reread it just to see the hints of Rin crushing on Mahiro -- because I think, I, like Rin, took his behaviour for being a nice friend, rather than a potential love interest.
- You know what doesn't help? Being under the impression that Rin had a fiance! It was the whole reason I stopped reading the manga, and it turns out that wasn't the case at all! It was a mistranslation -- Mahiro's grandmother said that she'd choose Mahiro's fiance, not that Rin had one in the first place! I feel so silly!
- (God, doesn't that sound like a good premise for a fic?)
- (Maasa apparently is the only one who hasn't been kissed, out of the four, and that could be a cute Rin/Maasa fic too.)
- The art was still so pretty! I liked the fashion in this one, even if one of them (Maasa) is not fashionable at all.
It was cute, and so it's something I would like to reread soon, now that my worst fear about it didn't even happen.
