 Didn't really care for this book. I've read Uprooted, and I don't know what I feel about that one either. Mostly ambivalent, I guess? It's like a worse but more adult HMC by DWJ, and I'm iffy on the age difference too, so. There's that. Still going to reread one more time, I think, but I am definitely getting rid of the book.

• Biggest problem was easily the fact that the multiple first person narrators wouldn't tell you who they were, and it took a couple of paragraphs to figure that out. Not only that, but I didn't particularly care about most of them? Wanda's entire family was just... I got the point, still didn't care that much.
• Pacing was allllllllll over the place TBH.
• I was a bit confused at when Miryen fell in love with the King of the Staryk? I liked Miryen's character, but the romance kind of... missed me at what point it was supposed to happen because she spent most of the book hating him and plotting his death?
• I'm kind of mainly wanting to reread it for the Irina/Mirnatius/Chernobog subplot, because I shipped them more TBH.
  Staryk is a stupid name. I was unimpressed with it, also not to mention that yet again the Staryk King is probably a lot older than Miryem, but at least Miryem is twenty or so, I think?
  Minor peeve: how the beginning of the story Miryem was like 'the story Rumpelstiltskin as you know it is a lie and this is the REAL version'. I just. This isn't as bad as Frank Beddor's Looking Glass Wars, since it's really only the first page? first two? But I'm still like. God, that's pretentious.
