I... don't know what to make of this season. Maybe it needs a full rewatch to make sense of it? I just feel underwhelmed by it. I want to like it more than I did!
- I didn't get the messy moments that I so missed! (Well there were messy moments, but not the ones that I wanted!) Hollyhock just... avoids him and writes him a letter? Everyone slowly leaves Bojack -- which is what he deserves, he's a terrible person, but I wanted much more chaos and frenetic energy, and instead everyone just makes sad and uncomfortable faces which... yeah, I guess that's realistic too. I just wanted people to shout, honestly. This show kinda went out with a whimper.
- This show was so fucking rushed. Like you could really tell this season they just shoehorned a lot because they couldn't get more seasons but ugh, it shows. Really annoyed about that.
- I COULD have been happy with Judah/PC, but noooooooo. I don't feel like PC is interested in Judah at all, even though I love Judah and especially loved him when he let his hair down! (God, my heart still wants Ralph/PC, they were the best couple, I don't care if Ralph was too perfect, they were GREAT.) My problem with Judah/PC is that it was just so abrupt. They work great as friends, I can totally see Judah having a crush on PC, I just wasn't buying that PC loved him like that.
- Speaking of, PC, I can't believe I was torn between her possibly ending up with Mr Peanutbutter (because cats and dogs, even though I never really felt like they had much of a relationship!) or Bojack (because she did genuinely love him, but god, she's so much better off without him.) I like that PC drew the line and decided that she can be his friend, forever, but she can't be his agent anymore.
- Thank god that Pickles/PB ended. I couldn't care less about Pickles/Joey, they were incredibly unnecessary IMO. I did feel like PB knew that his relationship with Pickles was over in their conversation, before the official breakup text, so I was a little confused why it seemed that the breakup seemed like a shock? Maybe I just like Paul F Tompkins voice too much. I love listening to him speak, and I think I genuinely like PB as a character again.
- I am super hopeful that PB and Diane remain friends and stay in each other's lives! They were my original OTP, being nihilists, but I'm glad they had a conversation and just talked to each other.
- OH BOY AM I GLAD THAT DIANE IS NEVER GOING TO TALK TO BOJACK EVER EVER AGAIN. They weren't the heart of the show for me, so I don't really care that the friendship ended? I'm just spitefully happy because I was terrified that he might end up with her, and the show said NO, NO FUCKING WAY, and I breathed a sigh of relief in the final episode.
- I liked that Guy and Diane were super cute this half and we got to see more of them bonding and being happy together.
- I kind of would have been okay if Bojack had died of overdose TBH? I wasn't sure I'd be okay if he died for a long time, but then I saw the penultimate episode, and was actually surprised that it worked for me. But then he lived and had to suffer the consequences, and that was great too! I don't know if the future is any good to him, but by this point I'm kinda apathetic to Bojack, so meh. At least I got to hear Zach Braff one last time.
- Bojack bragging about how he aced the interview was my favourite scene of him, it's just so despicable! I mean, yes, it was nice that he became a teacher, but... meh. Kind of wish much more dirt on him had been exposed, and Paige and Max had been used more. But oh well.
- Todd and Maude were cute! I didn't feel like Todd got much to do this season, but that's okay, Todd's cute, he got reunited with his family, and is doing better!
- A HAPPY ENDING FOR CHARACTER ACTRESS MARGO MARTINDALE! Somhow, this ended up being the most satisfying resolution of all! She was just so much fun on the show.
Overall, I think I need more time to think about this show, but I think I'm kind of disappointed in the direction it went. It's realistic that people got dropped and just went without a bang, but man, because it's a tv show, I kind of want Hollyhock's fallout with Bojack to have been resolved, rather than her avoiding him, and then just writing a letter. I don't really care about the contents of the letter, I just feel a little bit disappointed in how she dropped out of his life and the show, really. But then, should I really be surprised?

Date: 2020-02-03 03:29 am (UTC)I liked Hollyhock's ability to remove BoJack from her life, even if it wasn't the blow-up I was expecting. With the way part one of S6 ending, the cliffhanger of Hollyhock learning about Penny, I was really excited to see how that would change things. And it did!
I think expected more of an angry/aggressive response from Hollyhock because we've seen her get angry and vocalize her feeling towards BoJack's bullshit before, back when he was mistreating his mother. Knowing that her character has the ability to be that person makes me wonder why she went on this avoidant path instead. And, to me, the avoidance felt like a very realistic response to discovering the worst parts about someone close to you. He never learns, and in the time Hollyhock has been avoid him she's physically seen him neglect his mother, get hooked on prescription drugs, and (unintentionally) emotionally abuse her with comments about her appearance. And this is all before she learns about Penny.
At some point, I think Hollyhock came to realize she was a better person without BoJack, and a messy blow-up about it would only make ending things feel worse.
