Definitely an interesting show!
- I did enjoy the mysteries that unfolded and developed over the course of three seasons, TBH. I liked all the group dynamics, and how sketchy the train was, leaving people to obsess and slow to figure out what was supposed to help their development.
- I love shows that are character development: the series, and this one was definitely that!
- S1 was a pretty great entry point, honestly, and I liked how the later two seasons would not have been the same without it, the repercussions echoed through. I enjoyed Tulip and her development TBH. She's the least interesting of the protagonists, but I enjoyed her all the same. I liked her unwillingness, for some reason -- like, she didn't want to feel bad for the fake conductor, but, after finding out her backstory, she couldn't be unsympathetic and see her as a purely evil being.
- I didn't care for Amelia, that much. She was an okay protagonist, but hm. Not sure I like her that much regardless?
- Love The Cat. I just like Kate Mulgrew, okay? And finding out her backstory in s3 was really cool. Heartbreaking, but cool.
- I didn't always like Lake TBH. But I enjoyed her struggle of personhood and individuality, and her friendship with Jesse and Alan Dracula was really sweet and endearing. And I think that Lake had the right to be bratty and obnoxious because she's tried of being a reflection, and never had the chance to be. And that is frustrating but interesting to watch, because you don't know who you are, but you find out, and change. And she never ever stopped believing in herself, which was valid.
- I liked Jesse's arc got pretty quickly done, TBH! The way he was easy-going and needed to be more rigid and less eager to please people, made him such a good contrast to Lake and Tulip. While I'm sad he wasn't in all the episodes, he really was sweet, and I loved him to pieces.
- Loved Mace and Sieve as the big bad duo of s2. I'm always going to like the implacable law-enforcers because of sheer minded determination, and these two were great. Good cop, bad cop!
- And then there's Grace and Simon. and oh boy the Infinity Train failed them big time. Which is I guess what happens when you don't know the purpose of the train, have years to think a certain way, and are unwilling to change that mindset.
- God, I love them both. I can't help it, even as Simon grew more and more despicable, he was just having one big breakdown episode after episode. I truly wish he could be redeemed, like IDK. being consumed by the Ghoms give you a way to be 'reset' into the system, or something?
- Also, JFC, what a cute couple, to begin with. How they flirted with each others, and teased each other at the start of the show, was so delightful, and then that made it even more tragic and horrible when Simon wanted things to revert to things to before, as things fell apart between them and the rift grew and grew, and he became an irredeemable monster.
- But Grace was awesome. I really liked how she realized how she messed up, I liked that she couldn't help but want to save Simon, because despite everything that happened, he was still her friend. But that didn't mean that she was his caretaker, or that it was her fault that he became the way he was. She did contribute, sure, but the fact of the matter is that Simon was always responsible for his actions. Time and time again, he had chances to change -- to bond with Tuba, Hazel, The Cat, Amelia -- and chose not to.
- Also, I loved that Hazel and Tuba, and that Hazel got away from both Simon and Grace. As much as Grace wanted to do right by Hazel, in her own way, the fact was she threw Hazel under a bus, and Hazel was not going to have any of it. As much as Grace was improving as a person, it didn't mean that Hazel had to stay with her, and was definitely better off without her.
- Which, aw man, makes me wonder about future seasons. I do hope Infinity Train reaches its intended eight seasons. I just think that would be really neat.
- I guess Hazel and Amelia would be the best protagonists to follow, but IDK. I want every protagonist, troubled or otherwise, to get better, no matter how lost they get. And I wonder if it's possible for Simon, in some capacity, to even get a redemption. Maybe not. He might have been irredeemable, but I still feel bad for him, even after the choices he made. Also, it would be cool to know what are Ghoms, and if there's more to them than just 'mysterious life draining bugs'?
