Super loved it. Glad I rewatched s1, to make the show even better than before.
- Hwang Simok remains my favourite protagonist! I just -- he's such a talented actor, because even if the character can't emote/feel emotions, the actor puts in such interesting facial expressions (the way he considers things, reacting, etc) and I really really adore him.
- I also super love his friendship with Han Yeojin. I don't know if I ship it, but I find their relationship lovely, in every sense of the word. They just get each other, and they are dear to each other, and that is very precious, considering that s2 was all about the police/prosecutors being at odds with each other, and how they are able to continue their friendship despite that. Yes, they had fewer interactions, since they were on opposing sides, but that didn't mean that their moments together wasn't meaningful.
- His rivalry with Seo Dongjae continues to make me laugh. They were the best double act in this series. Like, I don't necessarily know if Hwang Simok hates people, but -- I can pretty easily say he dislikes Seo Dongjae, and constantly rolling his eyes, and bluntly ending any nice atmosphere that Seo Dongjae tries to create. Like, I'm not entirely sure that it's mutual dislike, part of me does think that Seo Dongjae tries to be friendly, because in part, he can't stand Hwang Simok either, but he does try to make nice, (so part of me wants for it to be sincere), but they do make a great team, regardless. I was very sad that Seo Dongjae disappeared in the midway point, TBH. But I think at that point -- Hwang Simok does care about Seo Dongjae a little bit? maybe not really as a friend, but a work colleague, maybe?
- I loved his relationship with Kang Wolchun, TBH. I love that Kang Wolchun continues to mentor him, even if Kang Wolchun can't help but get annoyed at Hwang Simok. He's annoying!!!! But he tries to look out for him and guide him, and I am very touched that Hwang Simok visits him in the final episode, where Kang Wolchun has gone fishing. But the best moment for them IMO, was when Kang Wolchun teaches Hwang Simok how easily asking for favours could turn into an abuse of power, and Hwang Simok had never even considered it. It's just a really good scene in how the two act with each other.
- I also super enjoyed Hwang Simok interacting with Kim Sahyun! Like, I wasn't really sure what to make of Kim Sahyun to begin with. But he was very charming! But I liked the way Kim Sahyun tried to mentor and look out for Hwang Simok as well, even if Hwang Simok baffles the hell out of him, and also infuriates him. Second comedy double act, IMO. He just made me laugh with the way he came to conclusions, and said he was too pretty to be a prosecutor. (He is!!!) But I liked his charmeleon-esque ability to shift a little, and then him losing his temper all the same. A super great performance.
- I also really liked Woo Taeha. I've seen him in a couple of shows (Weightlifting Fairy, and The Guardians), but basically, I liked that he was a dark foil to Hwang Simok and Lee Chanjun. Also, super loved that Chief Choi Bit was a dark foil to Han Yeojin. It was just cool, IMO. Both were really good here, and them being a little bit illicit.
- Something I really liked about this show was Seo Dongjae. I mean, okay, he was my favourite in s1 as well, but he was such a star in s2. Interestingly, s1 left the impression that he hadn't changed after his admission that he was a new man, and that he was back to old tricks. But apparently? s2 sort of mostly implies that it's not the case -- but then, I don't know?? I don't know how to interpret his behaviour with Lee Yeonjae?? and ugh, I was gutted that he disappeared mid-season, but he's okay! I actually liked his wife, and the fact that he winked at her in the final episode?? So I kind of want to know what their family life is like, and see him more as a father TBH??
- Super loved the fact that Yoon Sewon appeared in prison!!! I didn't expect to see him again, but I did! and my heart went all fluttery!!!!
- Listen, everyone has so much good chemistry with each other this season! Part of the reason why I liked the first half of the season SO much was because I could feel how much everyone liked working with each other! They were friends! They were so warm with each other, and UGH, what a good cast! I kind of want more of everyone interacting with everyone, which I felt got a bit more diminished in the latter half.
- OKAY THE DREAM SECTION. Hwang Simok has a dream about everybody (Lee Chanjun, Young Eunsoo, Yoon Sewon, Seo Dongjae, Kang Wolchun), and gosh, I sobbed. I cried a lot because the song playing over it was perfect, but also, I just love how Hwang Simok percieves things? Even if he can't put it into words, he does miss them, he did look up to them, he failed them, and I was nonstop crying at the scene. I 100% believe that it's the reason Han Yeojin visits Yoon Sewon in prison, to make sure he's doing okay, because god, I was worried that it was prophetic and the remaining living ones would die, and I cannot state how much I did not want that to happen.
- The soundtrack is so good. I just. I listened to it recently, and I'm honestly pretty amazed at how much I like it TBH? I'm pretty sure most of the songs didn't even play during the majority of the show, but maybe because I skipped the ending credits, that might explain why I was surprised at how many vocal songs there were tbh!
I just. I really liked this show. I do hope they write more seasons, and make it remain quality. 10/10.
