Angel's Last Mission: Love

SUPER CUTE.
- God, I love this drama! It definitely has one of my favourite romances ever! The general plot is: Lee Yeon Seo, a blind ballerina, has become ice cold, cynical and arrogant. Kim Dan, an angel with a penchant for mischief and optimism, is tasked with a mission he has to complete before he can into heaven: to make Lee Yeon Seo fall in love.
- Listen, I've seen Shin Hye Sun (who plays Lee Yeon Seo) in several things, and she's so good! She can do the sweetheart roles, and she can be cold and cruel, and she's so very good here! Her transformation from turning into a less cynical and nicer person was really lovely here, and it was very cute to see how she slowly fell in love with Kim Dan. Also she was very good as a ballerina! It's definitely the most physical role I've seen her in, but I think she pulled it off really well!
- I've also seen Kim Myung Soo (Kim Dan) before, and like, okay. I won't say he's a bad actor, because I don't think he is! He's decent! He's cute, and I do think he's a lot better in this role, than say, Cunning Single Lady. Which is fine! Because that was a minor role where he was cute and bubbly, so it worked perfectly for that show, but I think he's come a tremendous way since then. So it was really cool to see have improved. Also: his curly locks were divine (pun totally intended). But he was sweet, and it was cool to see him as an ethereal being, and to see him fall in love, and feel conflict, and they made bickering with each other very cute. Like, okay, I do think his performance may be more cartoony than Shin Hye Sun, but that's fine -- it was a fairly fluffy drama, so it worked well.
- I kind of would like to know how a human becomes an angel, and if that's the case for all angels? But also: super loved the angel lore! The handkerchiefs with the feather design was super pretty, and how Kim Dan became a human with the handkerchief disappearing was lovely.
- Super loved Kim Dan's friendship with the arch angel Hu! I liked how Hu couldn't help but get attached to Kim Dan, who was the sweetest, and while being initially against the Dan/Yeon Seo romance, ends up sacrificing himself for them. YES I CRIED. I liked how you could tell how much fun Hu was having with his role TBH. I was always super entertained that whenever he possesses people, he wore their clothes, and Kim Dan was always shocked to see him pestering him!
- I also loved Ji Kang Woo. But oh boy, he was a trip and a half. I went through an entire spectrum of emotion with him. First I disliked him, then I liked him, then I pitied him, and ended up really kind of liking him a lot. I also think this is a better done version of 'my past lover looks exactly like the leading lady' -- than say, My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho. IDK! I know there was no reason why Lee Yeon Seo looked exactly like Choi Sul Hee, but I still liked Ji Kang Woo going through the motions of pursuing Yeon Seo because she looked like Sul Hee, but then genuinely falling for Yeon Seo because of who she was, rather than who she resembled. And also the fact that he did genuinely love ballet! I liked his shadow wings -- although I do wish that that had got used more, rather than only appearing once -- but the fact that he was a fallen angel who had gone through the exact same thing Kim Dan had, and had an unhappy ending. Also, I would have loved more friendship moments between him and Kim Dan! IDK, I just liked that Dan was an infectious ray of sunshine, so despite their many arguments/jealousy, the fact that Kim Dan still considered him a friend and wanted to reach out to him was sweet. Part of me thinks he's still an angel stuck, hence why he has wings, and why he's visible to humans, but IDK!
- Loved that we got to see another angel/human couple TBH! It was super adorable, and very sad. IDK, I just liked that we got three versions of angel/human romance, and how it mostly ends in tragedy. BUT NOT THE MAIN ONE! Though they pulled me through the ringer, because I didn't know how they were going to get out of the seemingly inevitable cycle of tragedy.
- I am glad that Ji Kang Woo didn't end up with Geum Ni Na though. It's not that I would have minded it, but they didn't really interact that much, so even if I could believe Ni Na fell for him early on, there really wasn't enough time for him to reciprocate. But the fact the show ends with them parting on good terms anyway, despite her loss of faith in him, and him offering that if she ever wants to be the star of the show instead of teaching children, she could always contact her, was very pleasing to me.
- I really liked Ni Na! Like, I wasn't sure, originally? I liked that she seemed the nicest out of her family, and I don't think it was an act, TBH? But I do think she needed to be tougher, and she did! And it was good that she herself knew when it was too far -- even if she became much less fragile -- she never turned into a villain, like the rest of her family.
- I did love the rest of her family though. I love how much Choi Yeong-ja and Geum Ru-Na were more than happy to go really morally dark because they wanted Ni Na to be the star of the show. (And that the dad was really complicit, even if he did try to protest, and did bare minimal.) Except! It was super great that Yeong-ja had limits, and couldn't believe that Ru-Na had actually committed murder!!! Oh, Choi Yeong-ja could be glad that she caused the accident to make her niece go blind, and prevent all her donors from letting Yeon Seo regain her sight, but murder? Inexcusable! I liked how that shock made Yeong-ja regret her parenting style a little bit, whereas Ru-Na was kind of shaped to being this driven demon to make sure that Ni Na got the role that she deserved was kind of great? Even though Ni Na got the last laugh when she announces her immediate retirement and would never become the star that her family wanted her to, Ni Na found her own kind of self respect, and that in itself was super great.
- Also, it was just great to see Ni Na and Yeon Seo become friends again, and worthy rivals. Like, yes, I can see Ni Na being superficially nice, but I think she also *wanted* to be the nice one, even though she *did* have resentment towards her, she eventually learned to grow a backbone and gain respect from Yeon Seo.
- The same goes for Jung Yoo Mi! I liked how neither Yeon Seo or Yoo Mi could stand each other, but by the end became super close that Yeon Seo could confide in her, and for Yoo Mi to tease her over Kim Dan.
- I liked learning about ballet TBH! Ballet normally sends me to sleep, when watching an entire performance, but because this was just snippets, it was far more digestible to me. And also I got to learn about Giselle! I only really know about Swan Lake (and I prefer Swan Princess anyway), but it was very cool to see how Giselle tied into the theme of the show, and became another foil to the Yeon Seo/Dan romance.
- This drama also made me cry! I mean, Lee Yeon Seo's life sucked, no wonder she was so horrible to basically everyone at the start of the show, but I genuinely cared for a lot of people in this show. It also made me laugh a lot, and I liked the callbacks.
- But mainly I liked how the main couple fought for their love, and tried so hard, and won. Also how they got married, and their wedding vows, and Yeon Seo asking Kim Dan again and again, and Kim Dan watching Yeon Seo after he'd become invisible. I just. I really liked these two, and how they had met before as children.
- Also the soundtrack was super pretty, and I will definitely be relistening to it a lot.
10/10. It was lovely, and a very good romcom with some genuinely heartwrenching moments.
