I've been rewatching Yu-Gi-Oh for comfort, and I just really love it. I actually started when the whole Destiel resurgence happened, and I just thought, if I was to resist it, why not get into this show. Because I did miss it.
- I can't believe how much I love Thiefshipping still. They're just two terrible people, but oh, god, I just love Dark Bakura and Malik so much.
- But I'm also weirdly intrigued by Angstshipping? Like, Marik and Bakura Ryou? There's something about them that I'm invested in? And I think, part of me does think it's because Dark Bakura used Bakura Ryou as a host, but I'm honestly -- intrigued what might happen if those two characters talked to each other.
- I have such guilty thoughts about Polarshipping. Like, on one hand, yes, that Mai&Dark Marik duel got to me, and I cannot *resist* the face-clutching, but at the same time, I am vividly aware of the age difference between Joey and Mai. And I know, I can and do ship their future selves! But right now, Joey is 16 and Mai is 24, and that makes me uncomfortable.
- I'm always surprised by how much the dub does not ship Tea/Yugi TBH? While I'm aware there is a triangle between Yami/Anzu/Yugi in the manga, it doesn't really come across much in the dub? I don't really get the feeling that Yugi has a crush on Tea, nor Tea on Yami -- but I do wholeheartedly believe in their friendships.
- I still kinda ship Ishizu/Seto Kaiba, again moreso in the future, but I just. I really like their interactions and their duels.
- It's also just because: I enjoy Ishizu's steadfast belief in the Egyptian past, and really everyone but Seto Kaiba believing in the Egyptian past, and Seto Kaiba, every single episode, remains buried in denial, to the point that he really does seem delusional for not believing everyone. It's funny as hell, but my god, Seto Kaiba is such an egomaniac jerk. Anyway, just based on interaction, the fact that Ishizu doesn't rise to his bait is probably the times he's most bearable as a human being.
- I don't really do Wishshipping, but can I just say, brainwashed!Joey and Yugi's duel in the pier slays me every single time. I do appreciate their friendship so much. I just. They such a heart of the show, they're the best!
- I always find it so offputting how the team are quick to rag on Joey. Like, I know it's for comic relief, but Tristan and Tea immediately go 'wow, Joey is definitely going to lose' if he makes a mistake during a duel, even if they do also just as quickly (and sincerely! I feel!) cheer him on when he's succeeding, but sometimes it does come across as pretty mean-spirited and shallow.
- Mostly though, I just love this sassy show, and I'm glad that I rewatched it because it's just super cute and I love everyone in it. I definitely want to get back into the manga, because I started and then stopped, so I might as well just start rereading from the beginning (murderous Yami!) but I'll get round to it, and the sequel series eventually!
