I enjoy Lupin III. I've only really seen the Studio Ghibli movie, and this feels very different, but I still kind of liked it?
- Fujiko Mine is great! I really think she's a fab character, who is utterly ruthless, but not devoid of feelings. I enjoyed her Not Quite backstory, and her being the link that ties most of the gang together.
- Y'know what? I don't mind prequels. In this case, I like it because it doesn't proclaim to be the 'true' prequel of how the gang united, it's just 'a' version, not 'the' version -- even if I don't have much attachment to the source material, I just. Sometimes it bugs me?
- I also like that Goemon doesn't actually join the Lupin's gang? He meets Jigan, but I don't really recall him interacting with Lupin much -- which is cool, because there's more to come.
- I really liked Jigan and Lupin III teamed up together, and decided to stick together.
- Also, what an interesting characterization for Lupin! I'm aware that the Ghibli version made him lighter and more palatable, but I would also I'm intrigued by his somewhat sketchy behaviour here? I mean, he's still fairly goofy, and horny, but there is something about him that feels colder and more twisted -- although I could also attribute that to the artstyle TBH.
- The artstyle was gorgeous. Regardless of the storyline, which IDK, felt a bit lacking in some respects, the art looked gorgeous and the characters looked great.
- TBH, the mystery was kind of lacking for me? Like. I do think that the middle part got more interesting, but the beginning and end of it was kind of. Not as compelling for me.
- The ghost town episode was awesome and I loved how weird it was. So weird but oh so cool!
- Zengata, always awesome. I enjoyed him trying to catch Lupin, but I also liked his relationship with Mine Fujiko.
- Honestly, I kind of ship the entirety of Lupin's gang with each other in any capacity, but from this at least I've got a soft spot for Goemon/Fujiko. I don't know what it is about them referring to each other as girlfriend/boyfriend somewhat sarcastically, I think they're cute.
- I didn't really like Oscar that much? I kind of liked him going to some truly dark depths to try and catch Mine Fujiko, with the crossdressing as schoolgirl, but at the same time, holy hell man, take a chill pill.
- I defintely want to watch the movies sometime? Maybe not right now, but in a couple of weeks?
7/10. It was good, but not my favourite.
